How is MonksPie different?MonksPie is a different take on the aspect of solving hunger, as it removes the two largest bottlenecks associated with giving - low transparency and high costs. It is a service that is as much for the user as it is for the recipient. It lets you decide the number of people you wish to feed and then sends you proof of the conducted feeding drives. MonksPie takes care of everything else, logistics, operations etc. MonksPie is also independent of any religious or political affiliations and is structured as a Public Benefit Corporation.

Why create MonksPie and who is behind it?MonksPie is an idea sapling of two Carnegie Mellon University alumni who felt the need to create a service that lets empathetic individuals be able to make any amount of social impact of their choosing, one day at a time.

Can I feed underprivileged children on certain special occasions like birthdays, death-anniversaries etc?"Absolutely! Just drop us a line at contact@monkspie.com if you have a specific date in mind that you want the meals to be sponsored on. We'd appreciate a heads-up a couple of weeks in advance.

What are Karma Points?According to Wikipedia, Karma refers to the spiritual principle of cause and effect where intent and actions of an individual (cause) influence the future of that individual (effect).Good intent and good deed contribute to good karma and future happiness, while bad intent and bad deed contribute to bad karma and future suffering. We haven’t quantified Karma yet (and we believe it is difficult to do so). Yet, Karma Points is our take on simplifying the sum total of our good deeds done unto others. We believe every good deed (and hence point) helps, and now with the platform it is easier than ever to collect these Karma Points :)

Why hunger? Why not healthcare and education?Hunger is a good starting point for us. Our vision is to be able to expand our outreach within the domain of hunger and to other causes in the near future. And while we realize that we won't be able to solve the problem of hunger overnight, we are still passionate about it and believe every step, small or big, counts.

Who will be fed if I use MonksPie?As of now, under-privileged children from the streets or from low-income families are being fed across multiple cities in India.
-
Will I know how my money was spent? Does MonksPie provide any proof?Once the meals are served on your behalf, you will receive photographs from the event typically along with your name on a placard. Children usually also volunteer to thank our users and in such cases, we also send short recorded clips to you.
-
Is MonksPie a non-profit? Is my money tax-deductible?Not as of yet. We have structured our organization as a Public Benefit Corporation rather than a non-profit to keep our focus on feeding children rather than on fundraisers and inefficient paperwork. However, because of our lean approach, we use most of your money for the real cause of feeding children, rather than on high administrative and operational costs.
